Chamber Presidents to Gather for a Historic Reunion

All past presidents of the Tuskegee Area Chamber of Commerce have been invited to the organization’s next meeting to be recognized in conjunction with the Chamber’s 50th anniversary. Karin Hopkins, executive director of the Chamber says there have been 14 presidents since the Chamber’s inception in June 1971. Four are deceased. One person declined the invitation. The former Chamber presidents who were contacted are George Clay, Bobby Davis, Cynthia Walford, Ruso Minnifield, Ben Newhouse, Charlie Hardy, Charlie “T” Thompson and Judge Deborah Biggers. The current president, Roland Vaughan was also asked to join in the recognition activity and photoshoot. This will be the first time in 16 months for a Chamber meeting in a physical setting. The Chamber’s last in-person session was in February 2020. The next month, federal officials issued a lockdown order, affecting the entire country, due to the coronavirus pandemic.  Since March 2020, the Chamber has been conducting business virtually using the ZOOM platform. The Tuskegee Area Chamber of Commerce will convene this live meeting on Monday, June 28, 2021 at the Tuskegee Municipal Complex beginning at 6:30pm.  To comply with COVID safety protocols, masks are required.
